Chipola Community Bank*

Origin

The dream of ten local business people is now a reality with the completion of the Chipola Community Bank (formerly First Capital Bank) building on Highway 90 East. It all started in May 2004, with a discussion among a small group of local area residents over coffee.

The group formed the Marianna Investment Group, LLC and began the process of forming a locally-owned and locally-operated community bank.  Mergers and acquisitions had taken the former community banks from the area, leaving a void. That's where we stepped in.

The State of Florida Banking Department and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's final approval was received on October 31, 2005.  The bank opened for business on that same day in a leased modular office (see inset photo).  After moving in and getting started with business, it was quickly determined that a much larger building would be needed.  On August 21, 2006, the Board of Directors entered into a contract with US General Construction to construct a $2.2 million office building.

Name Change

Several years later, the Bank's Board of Directors made a decision to adopt a new name (Chipola Community Bank) and logo to better position the institution as the area's only community bank.

The new name better reflects the bank's intent to be a bank dedicated to helping customers achieve their financial goals.  We wanted to better position ourselves as a bank that not only does business in this community, but is a part of the culture of Jackson County.  Our bank has roots where others have branches.

The new logo features a gold tree representing prosperity, and the oak symbolizes the deep roots the bank has in the community.  From the directors to the employees and shareholders, this bank's history cuts across generations.

The bank revealed its new look – both inside and outside – when it officially began doing business under the new name (Chipola Community Bank) on May 31, 2011.  The bank's website and online banking login page changed as well to www.ChipolaCommunityBank.com.
(The FirstCapitalBk.com website was abandoned on May 31, 2011.)

All staff, officers and directors and bank deposits, account titles and online user IDs and passwords remain exactly the same.

The Chipola Community Bank building now harbors a business that is the area's only true locally-owned and managed community bank. A bank that will tailor its products and services to meet the needs of the Jackson County community we serve.
