J. W. DilmoreRetired PostmasterMr. Dilmore was born near Alford in Jackson County, Florida. He attended Alford School before transferring to Cottondale School where he graduated as valedictorian in 1956. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy for a six year commitment. After finishing aviation electronics school, Mr. Dilmore joined a patrol squadron in Brunswick, Maine where he was placed on a flight crew as radioman and backup radar operator. He spent many hours patrolling the Atlantic from Greenland to Africa, which satisfied his desire for travel and excitement. After his Navy commitment was fulfilled, he began a career with the U.S. Post Office where he served for 37 years, the last 11 years of which he served as Postmaster in Alford. Mr. Dilmore served as a commander of the Alford American Legion Post #302 and is serving as deacon, treasurer, and adult Sunday School teacher in the Cypress Creek Community Church. |
